Personal Relationships

Family Relationships The relationship between Andrew and his parents is something of strange point for him. To many outsiders Andrew's parents seem incredibly distant and detached, as if they only had a child to complete some kind of sociological research paper. However, to Andrew they are just mum and dad and he does not know any different. From a young age they were the driving force behind to always excel, to always be the best. Counselling sessions he has had during his time have identified this almost obsessive desire to succeed as a cause for concern. Andrew finds his parents to be frustrating at times, that frustration even led to him learning to speak Klingon fluently just to annoy his parents when they insisted he pick a language to learn as a child.
Romantic Relationships Andrew would say he is far too busy for relationships but the reality is that he can be too much hard work. He's always more focused and more interested in his work or his research. He did have one long term relationship, that developed with Dr Joshua Prentis, a professor of Chemistry while Andrew was seconded to Starfleet Medical. They dated for 2 years and got engaged when Andrew was 30. For a while he thought it could work between the two of them, but Joshua wanted Andrew to stay on Earth but his career was too much of a pull for Andrew. After 2 years of being engaged they decided to call it off and go their separate ways. Since Joshua, Andrew has not had a romantic relationship with anyone.
Relationships with Friends Andrew is a loyal friend, caring and empathetic with them. He enjoys experiencing new things with friends and is always encouraging of friends to challenge themselves and he always likes that behaviour in friends towards him. He can be a tough nut to crack, but once a friend gets beyond a relatively tough exterior Andrew is warm and jovial with his friends.
Acquaintances Andrew is polite, curteous and the consumate Starfleet officer. However, he can seem aloof at times when off duty.

Personal History

Personal History Andrew Stone was born to Harold and Elyanna Stone in 2358 aboard the USS Horatio. Harold was on the command career track and was serving as Chief Tactical Officer and Second Officer, Elyanna was Chief Medical Officer. Andrew’s parents greeted his arrival with great joy and decided that one child would be enough for them and their careers. Neither of them wanted to sacrifice their careers for a family. At about one year old Andrew’s mother received a promotion to lead a research team at Starfleet Medical on Earth.

Andrew’s formative years were on Earth with his mother. His father was still aboard the Horatio and had been promoted to Executive Officer. At the age of four Andrew was enrolled in school in Edinburgh where his mother had decided to live during her time on Earth. His early schooling was incredibly standard, he excelled in subjects early on and quickly learned that academic excellence was the easiest way to get attention from his mother who was quickly moving up the ranks in Starfleet Medical.

As Andrew moved into middle and high school he developed a love of sciences, following after his mother. He was also required, by his parents, to learn a language which he felt was unnecessary but they insisted and he picked Klingon that in turn started an interest with Klingon culture, especially Klingon literature. Andrew became incredibly academically focused as he grew into his teenage years, avoiding the obvious teenager activities in favour of study or extra academic credit, including debate team and sports.

Career History

Starfleet Training At the age of 18 Andrew enrolled in Starfleet Academy with majors in Biochemistry and Pre-Medicine, he was going to follow his mother’s footsteps to become a Doctor. Academic study had never been a problem for Andrew and he found he was more than able to excel at his studies, but what he found out was the most difficult was the social aspect of the Academy and how ingrained it was. To the young man who had been pushed so hard by his parents to always exceed academically had failed to prepare him for the social side of adult life. Andrew struggled to make friends, instead focusing his attention on his work keeping him at the top of his classes.

Andrew graduated top of his class and was accepted to Starfleet Medical for his training as a doctor. His time at Starfleet Medical was a time he loved. The work was challenging, and by this point he was much more comfortable in making friends and socialising. During the four years of medical school he discovered his passion for xenobiology, which became his specialisation setting up for his career aboard starships. He graduated Starfleet Medical 4th in his class.
Career History Upon graduation from Starfleet Medical he was assigned to the USS Raleigh, a sovereign class vessel where he was a part of a large medical staff. As a junior medical officer he was eager to please his superior officers, always willing to run tests or volunteer for away missions to get more experience. During one particular away mission the security officer accompanying them was badly injured by a phaser blast to the chest, and communications to the ship were lost. He was forced to perform emergency treatment under fire on the ensign to keep him alive until they could get back to the ship. Andrew kept the ensign alive until they were beamed back to the Raleigh. If it hadn’t been for Andrew’s action the ensign would have died.

His Chief Medical Officer recommended Andrew for a promotion to full Lieutenant, which came with a transfer to the USS Jenner, a medical frigate, where he was appointed Chief Resident and Assistant Chief Medical Officer. His rise to a senior medical officer was quick and it was following along the path he and his parents had set him on at a young age. This was his first taste of being a department head role and he often filled in for his Chief Medical Officer and was the lead medical officer on the Beta shift. The Jenner was an interesting vessel and provided Andrew many opportunities to expand his medical training. Their primary mission was medical relief and humanitarian aid, where he routinely found himself practising medicine on people that found themselves completely at the mercy of those able to deliver aid to them. One particularly difficult period of his life was during a refugee crisis mission and its aftereffects. The once peaceful planet was still suffering from the refugee crisis and a virus strain had begun to spread across the planet. He saw the poverty and the many problems faced by countless numbers and became resolute in his belief on the role that Starfleet and Federation should play in the Quadrant - one of peacekeepers and humanitarian relief.

In 2388, the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Jenner was killed during an away mission pushing Andrew into the role of Acting Chief Medical Officer. It was hard for Andrew to step into the shoes of his former superior officer. Over the years they had become close friends, but he knew that death of a shipmate was one of the risks of being a Starfleet officer. He threw himself into the work and remained as Acting CMO for 6 months before Commodore Bryant seconded him to Starfleet Medical to be a part of her new team.

Returning to Earth after years in space was an adjustment for Andrew, the pace at Starfleet Medical was much slower than that of a Starship but the research was incredibly rewarding. The transfer and his experience aboard the Jenner secured him a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. Commodore Bryant’s focus within the Xenobiology department was to expand the remit of research under the team and promote wider medical cooperation across alien species throughout the Federation and with the other powers in the Alpha Quadrant. Her goal was to reinvigorate the goals and aims of the Intrerspecies Medical Exchange. Andrew remained at Starfleet Medical for 5 years, being promoted to Senior Research Officer.

In 2394, Andrew was looking to get back into space. His secondment with Starfleet Medical was coming to an end and he wanted to take the next step in his career; Chief Medical Officer. He put in for a transfer and was appointed to the USS Vesta.
