Personal History
| Personal History | Born to Yesui Ra-Ejine on December 07, 2359, Batu Ra-Ejine is the last of his family line. Born on Efros Delta, he lived in one of the villages outside the major cities of the planet where more of the older ways were still observed and taught. His mother raised him, her various lovers in life helping here and there as there was no constant male figure in her life as was the norm in their society. Around the time Batu was seven tragedy struck however as Naussican pirates came looking for a shipment of Ore they were owed from the nearby mine that had not been delivered. Things turned south and several villagers were murdered, including his Mother. While Efrosian forces were able to catch the Naussicans with the assistance of Starfleet it didn't bring back the lives lost. Batu was sent to live at the orphanage within the local temple. It was in the temple where Priestess Berude Ni-Dhorolas would raise Batu amongst the other orphans (which were very few), for the rest of the majority of his youth. As he was growing up she educated them and cared for them like a mother. She also shared the religious stories of their people with them, including the great concepts of the Warrior-Priests who had always protected and watched over Efros Delta for hundreds of years. Those stories stuck with the impressionable Batu who dreamed of a better life, and as a young boy, he wanted nothing more than to be a warrior-priest and free of his current lot in life. So much so he began to study swordplay amongst his other studies even just like they had known. But as he grew with age Batu realized he was compassionate and someone who cared for others, more than just the empathic skills of his people allowed. Whenever one of the other kids got hurt he was the first to run over to them wanting to tend to them, and soon his studies also included things like the basics of first aid where he helped care for others in the village. When Efros was seventeen he was given a chance to go outside the village and into the capital. As fate would have it he would run into a group of Starfleet officers who had become lost after some early day drinks, one of which had fallen and injured his leg. Batu tended to the injured officer and led the inebriated group back to where they were supposed to be lodged at to a waiting CO who was rather angry. He also was very grateful for Batu and suggested the young man consider applying for the academy. It was something that stuck with him for a good while and was an answer to finally moving on in life... |
Career History
| Starfleet Training | Batu entered Starfleet Academy in the year 2376 with an interest in focusing on becoming a doctor. For his first four years at Starfleet Academy the Efrosian worked his way through the sciences course, majoring in biology while also working his way through the hearts of many female cadets. During his senior year, he was lucky enough to be able to serve aboard the USS Cinegal, a Nova-class starship for his cadet cruise. After graduating from Starfleet Academy he immediately enrolled in Starfleet Medical where for the next four years he focused on studying medicine. Batu decided to take a primary focus in General Medicine with a secondary focus on infectious diseases. In the year 2382, he began his two-year medical rotation, serving aboard Starbase 84 as a doctor. | |
| Career History | After completion of his time both with Starfleet Academy and Medical, Batu received his first official assignment in the summer of 2384, posting to the USS Al-Mahadi as a medical officer aboard the Intrepid-class vessel. Quickly his career picked off, within his first two years he found himself on the planet Arloff IX with an away team in the middle of an evacuation effort gone wrong. With several locals and crew members injured from a freak localized storm, Batu worked valiantly to help triage the injured and get them to safety, riding out the storm until a second away team could arrive and evacuate them. For this, he was given a citation of merit on his record. The following years saw his career filled with mostly the day in and outs of a medical officer's life, though in 2388 he was promoted to Lieutenant upon taking a chance to relocate to the USS Venera as their Assistant Chief Medical Officer. There aboard the Venera, he found a great mentor under Doctor Laurent who not only helped to expand his medical expertise but also his skills in leadership as well. For the next six years, the pair worked together, tackling things such as medical rescues, cures for neurogenic viruses infecting the crew, to everyday scrapes and breaks. The most defining moment that Batu will probably remember however came towards the end of his service aboard the ship, near the last months of 2393. While leading a relief effort to Xindi space a rogue faction of Xindi extremists attacked the Venera and boarded the ship. While tending to injured in sickbay three Xindi Insectoids broke in and attacked the room. Batu was able to stop them, killing all three, but not before taking a shot to the shoulder and stomach himself. His wounds required surgery and a week of recovery before he was allowed to return to duty, but he prevented any of the wounded who were under his care from being injured. Still, after the memories of the incident would haunt him each time he stepped foot into Sickbay, something he never told anyone about. Seven months later in the new year, a posting became available aboard the USS Vesta for a Chief Medical Officer. Looking for an opportunity to move away from the shadows that haunted him and to progress his career Batu applied for the posting. |
