Summary

Engineering (or main engineering) is the location from which all engineering systems aboard the vessel, especially those relating to propulsion and power generation, are controlled.

Additional Information

Location Decks 12 & 13
Description Aboard Vesta-class starships, main engineering is located within the heart of the secondary hull on decks twelve and thirteen. The lower of the two levels features the chief engineering officer’s office, a large monitoring area, and space for conducting work on the vessel’s propulsion systems. A large catwalk with additional monitoring and workstations runs around the entire upper level of the room.

At one end of the engineering compartment is the warp core itself along with the primary control systems. It is surrounded by a red guardrail upon which an adjustable workstation can be reconfigured and relocated to service a variety of needs.

Entrance to the primary engineering spaces is provided by secured doors on deck thirteen that can be sealed in case of internal or external security reasons as well as in the event of an emergency. A small, single-person elevator near the warp core provides primary access to the second level from within main engineering while secondary access is provided by a utility ladder on the opposite side of the room.

Engineering is also capable of serving as a backup control center in the event of a failure of the bridge due to its protected location and its proximity to critical ship’s systems. Workstations can be reconfigured to emulate flight operations, tactical, and other command functions.
