Overview

Starfleet uniforms are uniforms worn by individuals serving in the Federation Starfleet. These uniforms are designed for comfort even in the most extreme environments. They facilitate the wearers’ needs both as scientists and researchers as well as in fulfilling Starfleet’s military role. All personnel are expected to abide by Starfleet dress code, though special exceptions are sometimes made for certain aspects of an individual’s cultural heritage.

Division Colors

Starfleet uniforms are generally broken down by color among the primary operating divisions and, occasionally, by department. These division and departmental colors have varied over time, but are consistent across the Federation Starfleet.

  • Command Division (Red): Individuals serving in departments such as Command, Tactical, Intelligence, and Flight Operations are considered part of the command division and wear red uniforms. These persons specialize in command and control functions aboard starships, stations, and installations. Most are trained in leadership as well as tactical operations, allowing them to take decisive action organizing and mobilizing to perform missions, while others are highly skilled at overseeing and performing administrative duties.

  • Services Division (Gold): Individuals serving in departments such as Engineering, Operations, or Security are considered part of the services division and wear gold uniforms. Those assigned to either engineering or operations specialize in maintaining the functionality and operational status aboard starships, stations, and installations. Those serving in security are responsible for safeguarding from internal and external threats.

  • Sciences Division (Teal): Individuals serving in departments such as Science, Medical, or Counseling are considered part of the sciences division and wear teal uniforms. Those assigned to science have the broad responsibility of observing, theorizing, and conducting experiments related to Starfleet’s overall mission of exploration. Those serving in medical or counseling specialize in treating and maintaining the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of others.

Note: For the purposes of this simulation, the color white indicates an individual who is a civilian or otherwise not a member of the Federation Starfleet. This may include civilian residents, specialists, or diplomats living and working aboard a starship, starbase, or planetary installation.

    Standard Duty Uniform

As of the 2390s, the standard Starfleet uniform for both officers and enlisted personnel consists of a black turtleneck undershirt, black top, and pair of black trousers. Division colors are displayed across the shoulders and high collar in a similar format to uniforms of the late 2360s and early 2370s. Rank insignia, which consist of silver pips instead of gold, are located on the upper right chest against the individual’s division color. A hollow, outlined Starfleet insignia set against two irregular trapezoids (which doubles as a combadge) is worn on the left breast.

The standard uniform for flag officers consists of a grey and black top, black trousers, and red undershirt that has no turtleneck. Rank insignia, which also have silver pips instead of gold, is located similarly on the upper right chest of the uniform. However, flag officer rank insignia are placed on a dark gray isosceles trapezoid with a silver border. A hollow, outlined Starfleet insignia set against two irregular trapezoids (which doubles as a combadge) is worn on the left breast similar to the standard duty uniform of officers and enlisted personnel.
