From the moment the first alarm klaxon sounded, the atmosphere throughout sickbay changed. Medical staff who had just been going about their daily routines set aside their tasks and moved quickly to prepare for a possible response. Bio beds were cleared and activated. Trays of medical instruments were rolled into position. Within a few short minutes, they were ready.

With his go bags ready, Zerin leaned idly against a bulkhead. "95% boredom and 5% adrenaline rush," he muttered to himself, as he did most times after settling into the wait after the alert went off. He wondered what it was this time. He pulled a coin out of his pocket it and idly played with it with one hand, giving his itchiness of wanting to do something a small bit of relief. The alert tone activated again, which he quickly dropped the coin back into his pocket and went for his bag, ready to go wherever he was needed.
ED Response Team report to surgical for a beam in patient, unknown details, the voice said quickly. Zerin left his bag where it was and proceeded back towards surgical. He was curious for the beam in, especially back to surgical. He stepped in right before the beam in happened.
A blueish-white energy shimmered into existence above the surgical bed. It quickly resolved itself into a humanoid form before fading away, leaving behind a reptilian-looking alien in its wake. They wore some sort of primitive flight suit which had been scorched in several places. Their helmet was cracked, a portion of the face plate missing, and there appeared to be a serious burn across the exposed side of their face and neck.
Several nurses flanked him as they looked at their patient. "Standard work up, trauma protocols for now by the looks of it," Zerin quickly began doing a rapid trauma assessment of the patient as the nurses worked around him, beginning the process of charting information while vitals and diagnostics were being performed.
"Hello my new friend, you are onboard the USS Vesta, a Starfleet vessel, can you hear me?" Zerin asked looking for any kind of response. That response was a raspy breathing pattern, possibly a grunt in response, however Zerin couldn't be sure if it was a response or a well timed coincidence. Either way, his new patient left him confused as ever.
"Lets get a call into the bridge and figure out where our lovely patient was found and some circumstances," he said, looking directly at one of the nurses charting, who nodded. Grabbing a medical plasma cutter, Zerin began to slowly cut away the helmet to reveal the patient's head. "Update on the body scans?" He asked as he worked.
"Multiple fractures of what appear to be his skeleton system," one nursed replied, going through the scans. "I believe he is perfusing appropriately, he seems to be carbon based, and require similar environmental conditions as us. However possible internal hemorrhage, definite shock indicated."
"So we are unconscious, broken and mangled, bleeding internally, and only partially sure we know how we tick and operate?" Zerin asked as he looked around the fellow providers. "I love a good puzzle. Who's the on call Doc right now? Kas? Page him. We are going to need all the help we can get. Meanwhile, lets start some resuscitation protocols and see if we can isolate hemorrhage locations."

Kas stood near the nurses' station. This was the first time they'd encountered a situation like this since he'd come aboard and he was impressed with how well everyone had responded. As so often happened in their line of work, though, the sudden rush to prepare had given way to the inevitable waiting. This was certainly one of the more challenging moments because one never knew if they were actually in the clear or if it was simply the calm before the storm.
Suddenly, Kas heard his name being paged over the sickbay's intercom. So much for being in the clear, he thought to himself. He immediately pivoted his step and began making his way quickly down the corridor toward the surgical suite.
[[Surgical Suite]]
Zerin looked around at the nurses for a moment as they bounced about doing their individual tasks before turning back to the large screen. His fingers moved around the different scans, trying to figure out what was going on inside of the patient.
Kas emerged from decontamination and paused, taking in the scene. A number of medical staff bustled around the operating theater to his left. They were all occupied with what appeared to be an alien patient laid out on the surgical bed. Kas did not recognize the species, but even at a distance, he could tell the patient's injuries were serious.
"What's the situation, lieutenant," Kas asked as he approached.
"Hey, oh you know, who knows?" Zerin replied looking at one more thing before turning around. "Classic lets give Sickbay a patient with no backstory situation." He rolled his eyes, stepping out of the operating area into the common space and to the controls. With a few clicks the images of the patient were displayed, including transsections of parts of the thoracic area. "Based off tissue perfusion I believe the patient's perfusion is alright for the moment, but it appears we have some bleeders." Zerin pointed out a couple spots. "Wish I could tell you how much time we have, but your guess is as good as mine." He added in, glancing at the patient.
"Something tells me, if we want answers..." Kas said, following his colleague's gaze toward the surgical area, "...we're going to have to get them from our patient." His mouth was tight. Going in blind was never the most optimal approach, given how easy it was to do more harm than good when one didn't know what they were getting into. This seemed to be one of those occasions, though, when there were few alternatives.
"Alright," he said, "let's do this..."
